A-SPAN has two HUD funded permanent supportive housing programs known as In-Roads and Striving Home. The Permanent Supportive Housing Program provides housing and case management for 18 people who suffer from mental illness and/or substance abuse and were chronically homeless prior to being placed in housing. Housing Case Managers provide weekly support, assisting clients with transportation, budgeting and activities of daily living.

New this year is the Financial Literacy Initiative, a program funded by The Boeing Company. Through this program, people living in the Permanent Supportive Housing Program develop skills that will help them retain housing, such as budgeting, social skills, good tenant practices and healthful living.

Studies have shown that people are more receptive to social supports once they’re in housing. This is the basis for A-SPAN's and Arlington County's "Housing-First" approach. A-SPAN is an active partner in Arlington County's Ten-Year Plan To End Homelessness in Arlington County, Va.
